Someone mentioned to me that the layers that buckled to form mountains were not the entire depth of the hydroplates that slid; he poses the question:
"Why were only the top surface layers buckled, instead of the entire thickness of the hydroplates?"
He mentions the Alps, Appalachians and Himalayas, for which he says only the top surface buckled.
